The accompanying paper will bargain on the most effective method to turn into an appointed authority, the prerequisites to turn into an adjudicator, pay rates, and the various sorts of judges and what sort of data they manage. Judges are the absolute most notable individuals in Canada. They are the people who sit on the seats in the courts, whose obligation it isn't just to choose the destiny of people, as themselves, yet to guide and control the course of the law itself. The appearance approach of the 1982 Charter of Rights changed numerous things for judges. From that point forward, they have been given the assignments of deciding the essential rights and opportunities all things considered. WHAT IS A JUDGE? An appointed authority fundamentally settles on the destiny of the individual who remains previously him. He tunes in to the data introduced from the respondent, who is the blamed, and the offended party, who is the informer. When the entirety of the data has been introduced, either the adjudicator settles on a choice or the jury does. In a little court, generally an appointed authority settles on the choice, however on the off chance that the litigant was a mass killer, and had onlookers seeing him slaughter a individual, however had a virtual hermetically sealed case for him that would get him out without any penalty since he was the head administrator's child, there would be a jury. An appointed authority additionally passes sentence, which is to what extent the blamed, whenever found liable, ought to be rebuffed. An appointed authority is viewed as god to the blamed remaining under the watchful eye of him, the appointed authority grasps the destiny of an individual. They deserve admiration, and the activity of an appointed authority, in the event that it is the preeminent court or a little cases court, judge holds unique significance. An appointed authority additionally has the favorable luck to see pretty much every kind of individual living today, from executioner to housewife, from jaywalker to psychological militant. Necessities TO BECOME A JUDGE AND HOW TO BECOME ONE Simply the best can turn into an appointed authority. Best doesn't have any significant bearing to the best at math, material science, or science, yet as well as can be expected do. In the event that a judge just stays there, in a dark robe, gazing mindfully at the divider, at that point anybody could turn into an adjudicator. To turn into an adjudicator, you should have the capacity to think sensibly, decently, and to tune in to different sides of a story, clashing one another. One says liable. One says botch. The appointed authority must tune in and settle on his choice. Research on fifty appointed authorities from around Canada showed up the accompanying data: Every one of them had a Law degree. 60 percent said that they hadn't anticipated being an adjudicator The initial step to turning into an appointed authority is work. You need to make a solid effort to move on from graduate school. Numerous adjudicators said that they hadn't anticipated being an appointed authority, and practically every one of them said that it was the correct activity for their capacities. Many state that feeling during a preliminary can murder an adjudicator, be that as it may, to take a gander at it from various perspectives to think of a choice really causes the adjudicator to settle on the right choice. Numerous legal counselors regularly become judges. It is a generalization to state that judges are for the most part old, white haired men, on the grounds that there are many, numerous ladies judges. The data I have so far assembled says that a law degree is the initial step. There truly is no other second step. You can't generally become an adjudicator of a high court on only a law degree, so whatever else which will help. One adjudicator studied has his law degree, MBA, a degree in financial aspects, and has gone to class for over a large portion of his life. He is seventy three years of age. He is presently resigned, in the wake of being on the seat at Provincial Court for more than 20 years. Commonplace Court is the place road level cases are heard. To get into graduate school, you should have a normal score of 94 percent or better, (1987 figures) and to graduate you should have 95 percent or better (again 1987 figures.) The initial step is intense. There are an excessive number of legal counselors out there, however insufficient appointed authorities. Many cases have been tossed out basically in light of the fact that they were standing by to be brought to preliminary. One individual was hanging tight for longer than a year, and the case was tossed out. Answer: Passage and Taylorism The video thinks about between two plants and their technique for assembling vehicle. The Vulcan Motor Company Limited in the United Kingdom produced vehicles in the informal procedure which took weeks. The vehicles were exorbitant and could be just be managed by the rich (Vulcanmotors.boschauto.co.uk 2017). Henry Ford, the originator of the Ford Motor Company in the United States of America presented the logical administration process proposed by the American mechanical designer, Fredrick Winslow Taylor. Passage utilized logical technique for assembling vehicles by utilizing transport line where the parts went down starting with one laborer then onto the next. This logical administration of assembling cars made creation less expensive which brought about creation of less expensive vehicles reasonable by many. The procedure changed over vehicles from a superficial point of interest of the rich to the prized resources of numerous Americans. Portage so as to guarantee continuous creati on and maintenance gave great compensation to his staff. It very well may be that Ford presented the key administration of the human asset, apparatus and material to cut down expense of creation. He didn't permit intercession of worker's guilds so as to guarantee dynamism underway. This arrangement of vehicle fabricating spread to whole America and later to enormous European markets like Germany. Henry Ford achieved development and modernisation in assembling which came to be known as Fordism (Ford.com 2017). The laborers in Australia, Europe and America would acknowledge Taylorism today. Fordism alludes to the logical administration of individuals, assets and hardware to accomplish economies of scale. There are a few little organizations in these three mainlands which work in the little acale industry. These organizations can apply Taylorsim and the board their creation procedure in a logical manner. The organizations who are trying to achieve advancement in their items can likewise utilize Taylorism to support the market (Mortenson, Doherty and Robinson 2015). The guests in the call habitats use contents of inquiries which are planned keeping the buyers needs in thought. These guests utilize the content to address the clients utilizing phone or web associations are regulated by their seniors. Consequently, the call communities use Taylorism to deal with their creation group in a logical manner to guarantee age of income. The video shows the happenings in the Ford Motor Company dating hundreds of years back which appear to have gotten obsolete. The announcement can remain constant for the worldwide organizations like Ford Motor Company and Unilever who have their own unique plans of action. In any case, there are little firms which make FMCG products and exist in the dread of being immersed by huge players like Unilever. These organizations can utilize Fordism and achieve advancement in their creation procedure. They can likewise deal with their workforces and advancement deductively to decrease their expense of creation and increment their income. These little organizations can receive Taylorism to continue in the market and keep the worldwide organizations from overwhelming them (Sorge and Streeck 2016). Thomas Friedman on Globalization; 3 Eras of Globalization; World is Flat The main discourse by Thomas Fried arrangements with the three periods of globalization. The primary time was the time of worldwide exchange that diminished the size of the gigantic earth to medium. The second time of globalization matched with development of European forces like England and Spain into new terrains. The strengthening of people to impart and execute with entire world utilizing trend setting innovation has decreased the size of the world significantly littler. The speaker in the following video talked about his companion finding and discharging eco well disposed Peruvian dishes in China. He additionally laid weight on the significance of mindfulness among people in regards to the assets and their utilization (Friedman 2014). The level universe of today is ruled by people who connect with the entire world by the temperance of trend setting innovation presents chance. The key downside of this strengthening is that it has presented individuals to tremendous assets which they can use to fulfill their own needs. The key hazard is that today extreme gatherings like fear mongers have colossal capacity to make huge harm the economies. The hazard is that these gatherings have the ability to harm property worth billions and even undermine the presence of the worldwide organizations (Khajenoori, Parnian and Jafari 2014). The iron principle of Friedman expresses that the business world and instruction today is investigating new pioneering adventures and advancement. The organizations today can realize new advancements and upgrades in their methodologies. There is an incredible breadth of pioneering adventures and new businesses in todays world because of accessibility of assets (Baylis, Smith and Owens 2013). The degree of globalization isn't uniform the whole way across the world and there are various degrees of efficient and mechanical turns of events. The countries like the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Germany are propelled nations. These are home to enormous global organizations like Unilever and Ford Motor Company. The business sectors like India, China, Brazil are developing markets which additionally have their own worldwide organizations. These two markets have a few business tie-ups and go into respective exchange understandings. There exists consistent progression of cash, work, ventures, products and enterprises between these two markets. There are numerous nations like the poor nations of Aftica, Asia and South America which are mechanically and financially powerless. These nations are exceptionally poor and have absence of pioneering adventures. Their business sectors are not gainful and neglect to draw in large organizations. Thus, it very well may be opi ned that the degree of globalization isn't uniform and contrast between nations. End: The recordings and the inquiry examine two points, Taylorism and Globalization. The video on Taylorism tells story of the creation procedure in the British and American organization. The video shows that advancement and the executives can acquire improvement any industry. The inquiries at that point demonstrate that Taylorsim might be chronicled occurrence is still extremely relevant in the little businesses round the world. The subsequent video instructs the perusers on the ages and phases of globalization. It shows how the progression related with globalization made the world a littler spot. The video additionally illuminates the risks that globalization has carried with itself. Friedman in his address likewise worried on the need of obligation and mindfulness among people to get profit by globalization. On the off chance that the government laws apply to people, at that point discipline on wrong doing will be sponsored just as the exercises in the nation (Hamilton, Madison, Jay 2009). As indicated by Hamilton, enactment on states just would be an opportunity for wilderness. The states would pick what to actualize, and when and where to execute the laws. They could likewise abstain from actualizing the government laws which thus could bring about bedlam. This would bring about government intercession and as such the utilization of military to uphold request. Utilizing power on individuals could cause them to fight back and that could prompt common wars in an offer to oppose the position. Having government laws guarantees that there is a body that administers the activities and exercises of the whole country. This will guarantee that there is synchronization in each legitimate part of peoplesââ¬â¢ li ves and furthermore it will guarantee that if an individualââ¬â¢s rights are abused he has a channel that he could use to accomplish equity (Hamilton, Madison, Jay 2009). ... This will be a way to show different states the potential outcomes that they would confront on the off chance that they didn't keep government laws. While states might not have any desire to support a constitution that utilizes the military to uphold the law, they can't change the government law. Hamilton wasn't right in believing that it would just take the military to implement the law. In real sense, the individuals would guarantee that the laws are implemented as long as the laws secured their privileges and guarantee that individuals live together calmly (Hamilton, Madison, Jay 2009). Hamilton likewise composed that if the usage of the administrative laws didn't require the states enactment to mediate, and were executed legitimately on the individuals there would be no requirement for the administration intercession with fierce utilization of the military, an illegal order. This implies the states would not be a piece of any vicious and strong contributions of the legislature an d subsequently would not be a piece of any demonstrations that encroach the privileges of people. This additionally implies on the off chance that people didn't on their own part adhere to the government laws, at that point the impacts of their activities would influence them legitimately and not influence individuals in the express that do observe the bureaucratic laws. This is to state that, an individualââ¬â¢s activities will imply that any discipline will be aimed at the person without including individual state individuals who are blameless and furthermore won't influence the state. I concur in such a case that the enactment is on people there will be negligible possibilities that blameless individuals will endure by virtue of individuals that would prefer not to keep the laws. This implies the legislature won't result to measures that encroach on human rights, just as government Paul Looneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09371165958088885772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1212158424342471612.post-27066875621631228552020-07-09T23:56:00.001-07:002020-07-09T23:56:04.957-07:00Teaching Students About Topics For Their Essay Topics On Child DisciplineTeaching Students About Topics For Their Essay Topics On Child DisciplineResearch has shown that teachers have difficulty when dealing with student essay topics on child discipline. Each of these evil villains used authority and social pressure to persuade and manipulate people into performing acts that they wouldnââ¬â¢t normally do . The stories that fall under the genre of horror include a few essential elements: a villain or one seen as evil to create an initial story line. The foil is the next element; a foil is a person who tries to stop the villain from going through with the evil plan or plot. These two elements naturally lead to conflict between the two persons or groups and then from this conflict ââ¬â suspense, the last element is added. Suspense is important to keep the reader interested and to keep the story line going. When psychology is added to a story, the definition of horror is changed completely. There are still those few essential elements above but there is also a few more added. The story now has something to do with the mind and how it works, and there is really no definition for that. The mind and itââ¬â¢s workings are a mystery to us and that mystery of the mind adds to the suspense and therefore the idea of psychology and horror are able to go together and become one. This essay will prove that The Silence of the Lambs is indeed a psychological horror according to the five criteria above along with other sources. The first element to a psychological horror is a villain, and the villain is The Silence of the Lambs is Mr. Jame Gumb. He is a white male in his mid thirties, ââ¬Å"most serial killers are white male, unemployed, intelligent and experience financial difficulty.â⬠(Bonata, 3) Gumb is all of these things, he is unemployed but a very skilled seamstress, and using these skills is making himself a second skin out of women who he is able to take control of and render them powerless. He is also very intelligent but is anable to interact with other people and therefore remains unemployed. He experienced financial difficulties until he was the recipient of a large sum of money from an inheritance. ââ¬Å"The unconscious fear of women goads some men with a compulsive urge to conquer, humiliate, hurt, or render powerless some available sample of womanhood.â⬠(Menninger, 183) Gumb was deeply disturbed and unable to overcome the death of his mother and he wanted to be like her and resented any woman because he feels that he should have been born a woman instead of the man that he is. He is sewing a skin of women to try to become more like his mother and less of the man that he is. This is how he received his nickname ââ¬Å"Buffalo Billâ⬠because the way he murders and then skins his victims. Jame Gumb is a very disturbed individual and his ââ¬Å"violence and crimes are often attempts to escape from insanity.â⬠(Menninger, 181) Jame Gumb is in a word where he believes that he can become a woman and live somehow be with his mother again or even attempt to become her. ââ¬Å"Men who are violently afraid of their repressed but nearly emergent homosexual desired often try to overcome these fears with violent demonstrations. â⬠(Menninger, 183) Jame Gumb did not know what he was in terms of sexuality and decided that he would rather be a woman than a man. This desire drove him to commit such horrible crimes and try to become a woman using their skins. The foils to Jame Gumb are a much stronger force that he is or could ever be, they are the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the FBI. They want to stop the murders as soon as possible so that no other lives are lost and the country can get back to normal without living with the fear of a serial killer on the loose. .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .postImageUrl , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:hover , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:visited , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:active { border:0!important; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:active , .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3f9681a53dabad45cb0b480f37edc75d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Pedro Pà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ramo and The House of the Spirits Essay Along with the FBI, an X-psychiatrist named Dr. Hannibal Lecter and, Clarice Starling they try to stop the murders and regain order to society, this is not an easy task and there are many obstacles along the way. The first obstacle is that the whereabouts of Gumb are unknown and his identity has alluded the FBI since the murders first begun. The only link that they have to the murder is Jame Gumbââ¬â¢s X- psychiatrist named Dr Hannibal Lecter. Lecter gives Clarice Starling a few hints with every visit she makes she makes to him about the murder. While revealing hints about the murders is, at the same time revealing something about Clariceââ¬â¢s childhood. This causes Starling to search inside of herself for the answers to the questions she has been looking for about her life and childhood while at the same time trying to solve the case of Buffalo Bill. Lecter proves to be a trustworthy aid and does help the case and Jame Gumb is eventually found. The next element in not just a psychological horror but in any novel is the idea of conflict. There is a great deal of conflict between not only the FBI and Jame Gumb but also between a few other parties. The reasons for the conflict between the FBI and Jame Gumb are evident- the FBI would like him to be captured and Gumb will do anything to stop them. He keeps quiet and avoids contact with other people, he hides the bodies of the murdered women and drops them away from his home to avoid being caught. He wants to achieve his dream of being a woman and he will let nothing stop him. The next conflict in the novel is between the FBI and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The FBI sees Lecter as a threat to the case and does not advocate his involvement with the case of Buffalo Bill. The FBI knows how brilliant Dr. Lecter is and they are not sure if he can be trusted to tell the truth about what he knows about Buffalo Bill. The last conflict involves Clarice Starling and the struggle that she is facing within herself. She is searching inside herself for answers to the questions that she forgot she knew about, things about her past, childhood and about her entire life. Dr. Lecter brings up things in Starlingââ¬â¢s life that she needed in order for her life to be complete. She is able to straighten things out in her life that have stopped her from achieving her full potential in the past. With doing this the case of Buffalo Bill is solved. The closing of the case did not come without suspense however. Through the entire book there was some sort of suspense weather it concerned Buffalo Bill, the actions of Hannibal Lecter, or the situation that Clarice Starling was in. The last seven chapters are the most suspenseful chapters of the story. They deal with the capture and killing of Jame Gumb, the rescuing of the prisoner that he held hostage and finally the freeing of Clarice Starling from the ââ¬Å"screaming of the lambsâ⬠. Clarice starling murders Jame Gumb and his prisoner is set free with a few minor injuries. Clarice Starling finally finds peace within her and is able to enjoy life to the fullest and she owes it all the Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The location of Lecter is left unknown which leave the reader without a final closing further adding to the suspense of the novel. Novels in the genre of psychological horror are said to have the elements listed above. This essay has proven that the elements are indeed in the novel The Silence of the Lambs and therefore the novel is a psychological horror. The elements listed above are found through out the novel and are just a few of the many instances in which they occur. However, it is often neglected and the reader never comes to such a realization. But it is quite clear through Joseph Conrads choice of words, that there is a suggestion of an allusionary meaning, which is the determination of heaven, hell, and purgatory. Part one gives a wealth of information to suggest and alternate meaning. The way that I chose to interpret the beginning was that of the story of creation-a new boat, a new voyage, and a new life-just as Adam and Eve had begun. Marlow was starting off sinless and without a fault. Then, Marlow comes across a man who hung himself. ; (p. 12) According to Catholicism, suicide is considered a sin,Through the use of loaded language, Conrad assumes a direct relationship between the story of Adam and Eve to the man who hung himself. As Marlow and his companions walked through the countryside, they eventually wound up in a different location, an inhabited devastation; where there are people, a place where sinners reside. This is a large contrast from where Marlow started out, which was seemingly the Garden of Eden. Reading the section of the story that I did consider the Garden of Eden, I felt quite empty, as if it was a place where only Marlow and his companions were. Conrad used detail in this section which really made me pick up on this feeling of loneliness. When we finally arrive to the inhabited devastation,; the feeling that Marlow along with his companions are the only people there, evaporate. Immediately, the mountainous scenery strikes me. The details that Conrad gives of this specific places, gives me a very cold feeling. All around, the reader receives a geometric description of the natives, who are a part of the inhabited devastation. Just as Adam and Eve are out of place, the reader can assume the same of Marlow and his companions. However, we are not fully aware of one sin that Marlow has come across, the sin of suicide. It has to have played a part in their expulsion. The creation, along with the story of Adam and Eve are only one example of the allusionary meaning to the story. Yet, it is impossible to write a brief paper without using many examples from the book. It is clear that Conrads choice of words serves a specific purpose and should be treated as a point of reference to another meaning of the story. I find it impossible to read Heart of Darkness as just a story about a voyage to Africa. An example can also show you what works and what doesn't.The biggest problem with an essay is that most people are not used to writing for an audience. Even if the essay topic is the same, you are required to make statements that are not always considered in conversation. As an example, if you are telling someone about your dreams, it can come across as being brash and opinionated if you are telling someone what they should do. So what should you do to prevent this from happening? The first thing to do is define the specific problem. The problem you are writing about will determine the nature of the essay itself. If the problem is not specific, the writing will be less thorough. The next tip is to use good grammar and spelling. Good grammar and spelling help to prevent any bad feelings from coming through when you deliver your paper. And, as a bonus, it will help you get a better grade on your essay. The next tip is to ensure that your sentence structure is right. You want to make sure that all the main ideas are in place. All the words you use should flow well together. You don't want your essay to come out all scrambled up.And finally, ensure that you proofread your essay. It's a good idea to go back over your essay and check it over again for errors. By doing this, you can catch any grammatical or spelling mistakes before they are too late and you lose points off of your grade.Writing for an audience is not always easy. Especially if you are dealing with the sensitive topics that make up high school essays. It can be a little overwhelming to try to be thought of as more than a normal person. However, if you have a little bit of guidance and practice, you can be successful at writing for different audiences. The best thing you can do is go out and find a sample essay for yourself. There are some great places you can look for essays. So, go ahead and start practicing. They go by quite a few common names: bessbugs, patent leather beetles, horn beetles, Betsy beetles, and peg beetles. Bess beetles belong to the family Passalidae and share certain habits and traits. Physical Characteristics Bess beetles can be quite large, measuring up to 70 or 80 mm in length. Theyre shiny and black, which is why some people refer to them as patent leather beetles. Youll notice a pronounced gap between the deeply grooved elytra and the pronotum. A single groove divides the pronotum in two. To distinguish bess beetles from other similar beetle families, youll also need to examine the head, mouthparts, and antennae. The bess beetles head will be narrower than the pronotum, and the mouthparts project forward. The antennae have 10 segments, and are not elbowed. They terminate in a 3-segmented club. Classification Kingdom: AnimaliaPhylum:à ArthropodaClass:à InsectaOrder:à ColeopteraFamily:à Passalidae Diet Both adults and larvae feed on decaying wood. Both male and female bess beetles prepare the food by chewing it before feeding it to their young. Adults and larvae also feed on adult feces, which is predigested by microorganisms that break down cellulose. Life Cycle Bess beetles undergo complete metamorphosis. Adults mate within the tunnel system they excavate in a rotting log. The female lays her eggs in a nest made of masticated wood. Bess beetle larvae prepare to pupate about two months after eclosure from the egg. With the help of adults, the larvae constructs a pupal case made from frass. The larva works from the inside, and the adults from the outside. Adult bess beetles may live for over two years. Special Adaptations and Defenses Kids often like bess beetles because they squeak when you disturb them. Adult bess beetles stridulate by rubbing the undersides of their wings across their abdomens. Larvae can talk, too. Bess beetles have a remarkably complex language, making 14 distinct sounds. Home Range Entomologists list over 500 species of bess beetles worldwide, most living in the tropics. Just two species inhabit the U.S. Paul Looneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09371165958088885772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1212158424342471612.post-80194870119990656572020-02-29T15:24:00.001-08:002020-02-29T15:24:02.555-08:00Canada Multiculturalism Immigrants and Citizenship â⬠Free Samples This is to be noted that two hundred traditional origins were marked in the Canadian population according to the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) (Schultz and Caroline). It is evident that the traditional origins had exceeded significantly one million marks. This is to be mentioned as per the report authorized by AMP that significant migrants of Canadahas arrived from China, United Kingdom andà New Zealand. It is also to be noted that as per the 2006 Census by the particular Statistics Canada,à 783,795à Canadian populationrecognized as black, marked as 2.5% of the overall population of Canada (Owusu-Bempah and Wortley). This is clearly evident that 11% of the black population is recognized as the cross-race of the black and white. The term banana in ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m Banana and Proud of Itââ¬â¢ refers to the yellow outwardly and white inwardly. According to Choy, the Chinese who are born in the North America act and behave like the white people but they still look like the Asians and therefore they are given the nickname of banana. He comments that the other cultures also earns other nicknames as well, like for example, the Indians are often said ââ¬Ëapplesââ¬â¢Ã and the blacks are named as ââ¬ËOreo cookiesââ¬â¢. Where else, in Canada Multiculturalism immigrants and citizenshipââ¬â¢, it is said that Canada offers the perfect idea of Multiculturalism comprised with significant co-existence of diverse and different cultures (Modood). This is to be mentioned that the diverse culture comprises ethnic, spiritual, or traditional groups and is established in accustomed practices, cultural conventions and ethical values, thought process, and significant communicative skills and practices. As per t he Canadian history, there is a clear and significant impact of Europeanà culture and ethnicity, exclusively Frenchà and Britishà on their culture by the individuality of the specific indigenous culture. This is to be noted that the important essentials of the cross-cultures of Canadian significant immigrant people have started playing a major role in the mainstream culture of Canada. Choy in his book reveal the very painful experiences of his parents that they endured while arriving in North America. His parents being belonging from the Chinese culture had faced racial bias from the people of North America. On the other side, Canada knows to identify and respect the significant society comprised with multiplicity and diversity among dialects, customs, and religious believes. This is to be noted that in the year1982à multiculturalismà was recognized and rewarded by the particular section 27 of the significantà ââ¬ËCanadianà Charter of Rights and Freedomsââ¬â¢ (Baldwin). The significantà ââ¬ËCanadian Multiculturalismà Actââ¬â¢ was passed by Brian Mulroney, the former Canadian Prime Minister at that time. This is to be mentioned that theà significant Canadian Multiculturalism Actà is known as a particular law, authorized in the year of 1988. This significant lawhas an objective to realm and enrichà multiculturalism specifically in Canada. According to the multiple historical records thesignificant centralized government, led byPierre Elliott Trudeau, the former Prime Ministerà acknowledged in the year 1971 that Canada would accept cross-cultural policy (Ggraà ¾ulis, Vladimiras, and Vladimiras). It can be said that Canadaà would acknowledge and appreciatethe significant diversity in languages, civilizations, religious faith in the Canadian Society. Iââ¬â¢m banana and proud of it depicts the racial biases that people still suffers from while moving to some other nation and entering into their culture. However, Canada became significantly the first country in the entire world to adopt the practice multiculturalism as an official strategy in the year 1971 (Pfohman and Shannon). It is evident that the specificproclamationsignificantlyrefers to statement of former Prime Minister Trudeau in theà House of Commons of Canada on the 8th October 1971(Pacione and Darren). This is to be noted that this incident took place afternegotiation, the strategies of multiculturalism and bilingualism would be applied in Canada.à It is evident thatCanadian Multiculturalism Act (CMA) of 1988 was authorized as the outcome of this strategy statement(Hershey and Samantha). This is to be noted that Canada is playing a major role in order to executing the multicultural strategy as their official policy. The dedicated organization named Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is taking all the responsibilities related to thedevelopment of significant strategies and policies and handling specifically permanent and temporary abode visa, refugee security and citizenship submissions. They lead the significant refugees and immigrants to settle in Canada by the significant fund raising companies as the Canadian Caregivers Associationà to offernew arrivals with significant and exclusive settlement events. These dedicatedcompanies are known as the significant service provider companies. Choy further acknowledges how the Chinese people risked their life during the Word War II by joining army and only after that they had gained the right to be the citizen of North America. He also considered the view point of the elders of china about the young generation of China who assimilated so very well into the life of North American. He claims that Chinese will never forget their roots as they look into the mirror, it always reflects back. He also pointed out the fact that they are been brainwashed by the lifestyle of North Americans. However, he realized that he is not from any of the world and he therefore tries to find out the foundation of his Chinese roots. And finally, he accepted that he is a banana and he is proud of being a Chinese. Hence, from the story ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m banana and proud of itââ¬â¢ it can be analyzed that Wayson Choy arguedà about the tough times his parents faced as an immigrant and first nation in Canada, whereas in ââ¬ËCanada Multiculturalism immigrants and citizenshipââ¬â¢ Will Kymlicka argued that how Canada welcomes diversity spreading both its hands. Canada is known as one of the country marked by multiculturalism in the significant Western Government. They have already stated the example that immigration can be comprehended as significantly the first and foremost step to the citizenship. Canada has made people learn that the generosity of a country lies in the acceptance of an immigrant and transform the person into a citizen but the story of Choy differs from this. The clinic, however, shares the tax ID number with the hospital. It is also a provider-based health clinic (more on family practice and services). It is well-funded and is qualified under health provider shortage and medically-underserved categorization. In this sense, it is qualified to use either category, depending on need and on advantages. It is a small community of fewer than 20,000 inhabitants but it would likely serve more than one county or community. This type of town is one where everyone would most likely know each other. All the providers would have an LVN and the clinic has a clinic manager who would be acting as a liaison between the clinic and the hospital CEO; this manager would also be an intake coordinator; he would also coordinate staff for rescheduling, for billing, and for referrals. Pros and cons of workin g in identified arrangement One of the advantages of working in the identified arrangement are that the provider would be able to get to know his patients and the circumstances surrounding his patientsââ¬â¢ lives. Such an arrangement helps the provider administer the best type of care for his patients. Assessing the patient within his home environment is one of the ways for a provider to reach maximum efficacy (Hunt, 2008). The provider would not have much difficulty in evaluating his patients in their home setting because the community is small. Moreover, the provider would already know where the available resources are and know who would likely have access to such resources (Buppert, 2007). For the more specialized needs of the community, the clinic schedules specialists to visit at different times each month in order to reduce the need for patients having to travel to distant places to seek medical care. In the end, this practice helps ensure continuity of care for the patient s. Continuity of care is an important aspect of healthcare because it helps ensure that the patient would be fully monitored throughout his illness and would be able to eventually gain full recovery (Haggerty, et.al., 2008). Disadvantages are however also apparent in this set-up. For one, not many people would prefer living in medically-underserved areas because of the difficulty in accessing adequate and quality medical care (Shi and Singh, 2008). The more technical and higher level of services would be limited in this area. I noted however that the clinic where I precept conducts many high-level services because the health professionals in the clinic are very skilled. Throughout their years of practice in the rural setting, they have picked up and mastered various skills. They have encountered various patients and have come up with different ways to treat them or to stabilize them long enough to reach the next referral hospital. Even with the disadvantages which practitioners have encountered in the rural practice, the clinic has managed to work around its challenges and provide the best quality of services it can provide. It is important to note also that there are not as many positions for practitioners in the rural setting; the pay scale is lower than the average pay. The cost of services is however also lower than the cost of services appear in the urban setting.à Paul Looneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09371165958088885772noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1212158424342471612.post-4371443210629413902020-01-24T02:48:00.001-08:002020-01-24T02:48:03.751-08:00My Philosophy of Education Essay -- Philosophy of Teaching Educational My Philosophy of Education Is there a certain set of guidelines that need to be followed when teaching? If so, what should the main points of these rules be? I believe that when teaching, an instructor needs to consider the nature of the students and the importance of a good education. A teacher should also have some sort of idea about the teaching methods that should be used in the classroom. I believe that all students are capable of learning when given the opportunity. Children are not born evil. They are just simply born with a curiosity for new things. I think that the environment of a child affects their ability to learn. For instance, if a child is sent into a classroom where the temperature is constantly uncomfortable, the childââ¬â¢s attention will be diverted away from the lesson. A student needs to feel comfortable and relaxed when attempting to learn something new. I also feel that lessons should be taught on the level of the students because children do not think the same as adults do. They learn better through their experiences. Therefore, lessons should be as simple as possible and involve some sort of hands-on learning experiments. I think that the nature of knowledge is relative because the truth can vary depending on certain factors. These factors include the individual person, the time, and the place where the truth is created. I believe that a person can develop their own knowledge based upon their own personal beliefs and experiences, whereas, the absolute nature would require the truth to be discovered instead of created. The overall purpose of education is to teach children the skills that are needed to function in the real world. These skills allow the children to receive better jobs, which in turn... ...want my students to respect me; I do not want them to fear me. The areas of particular importance in the elementary curriculum are reading and writing. I will stress these areas because they are used in everyday life for entertainment and other activities. For example, many people read books or magazines to pass the time. Some people write in diaries or write letters to family and friends during their spare time. I believe that students need to have a firm grasp on these two subjects before pursuing further education. In conclusion, there are a set of guidelines that teachers need to follow. These rules are not universal but they are the personal beliefs and goals of the teacher. A teacher needs to have an idea about the nature of the students, the purpose of education, the teaching methods, and curriculum before attempting to educate a class full of students. Several factors are considered in making the price decisions. Some of the pricing strategies being used are premium pricing, competitive pricing, value pricing, and cost-plus pricing. It is important to choose the most appropriate pricing strategy for the products and services being offered. ââ¬Å"Selecting a pricing strategy for [the] product is critical, because price is the most highly visible element of all marketing efforts.Consumers and competitors easily can access pricing information on goods sold at the retail levelâ⬠(Giddens et al, 2005). This paper will focus on the most common pricing strategy being used which is cost-plus pricing. The said strategy will be described in detail with a scenario applying cost-plus pricing; the advantages and disadvantages will also be discussed. Cost-Plus Pricing All firms selling any type of products and /or services need to determine the right selling price in order to maximize profit. The most common and widely used pricing strategy is the so-called Cost-Plus Pricing. Most beginners in the industry use this type of pricing technique as it seems to be the easiest one to do. But before describing this specific pricing strategy, it would be best to define the terms involved in the discussion. The total amount to be spent on making the product is the cost of the product. This would include the overhead expenses as well such as employee salaries, utility bills, and other miscellaneous expenses relating to the making or manufacturing of the product. The amount the customer or the buyer pays for the product or service is the price. The price should, of course, be greater than the total cost of the product in order to earn profit. The difference of the price and cost determines the profit for that product. Value, on the other hand, is the worth of the product and/or service to the customer. Knowing these definitions and from the name ââ¬Å"cost-plus pricingâ⬠itself, this pricing strategy can easily be described as a product pricing determined by adding an additional amount to the total cost of the product. That additional amount represents the desired profit for each product. This additional amount for the profit can be a percentage of the total cost or can just be set arbitrarily by the owner or maker of the product. There are also some considerations and things to be factored in when deciding for the final price of the product using this strategy. For one, the total cost of the product may not be a fixed amount all the time as prices of raw materials may also change every now and then. The common formula used to compute for the product price using cost-plus pricing is: Price = (Ave. Variable Cost + %Fixed Cost) * (1 + %Markup) (Wikipedia, n. d. ) Given that total product cost may change, the formula above takes that into consideration and adds a certain percent of fixed cost depending on the variability of the product cost. The percent markup is dependent on the desired markup of the product manufacturer or firm owner. The formula above is just one example of how cost-plus is done. There are actually different methods of doing cost-plus pricing. The above formula is the so-called standard markup pricing where ââ¬Å"the selling price is the result of adding a fixed profit percentage, called markup, to the fixed cost of the productâ⬠(McCalley, 1996). The scenario below is a simple illustration of this cost-plus method: The materials used to manufacture a pen cost $10 while the labor and other overhead costs incurred per pen manufactured summed up to $5. Therefore, the total product cost is $15. The percent markup set by the manufacturing company for this pen is 50%.Therefore, the total price of the pen is calculated as: $15 * (1 + 50%) = $22. 50. The profit (markup) for the pen, therefore, is $7. 50. Another method of calculating cost -plus pricing is basing the profit margin from the selling price instead of adding to the cost. Using the same scenario above, this method is illustrated as follows: The total cost of the pen is $15 and the selling price is $50. This means that the profit margin decided upon was 33. 33% of the selling price. This percent is calculated as follows: ($22. 50 ââ¬â $15) ? $22.50 = 0. 3333 or 33. 33%. The first method shown is a markup or additional amount to the total cost, while the second method is a profit margin against the actual selling price of the product. Coming up with the profit amount may be calculated differently but their concepts are essentially the same which is cost-plus pricing. Advantages One of the major advantages of cost-plus pricing strategy is the ease of calculation of the cost and price amount. There are no complex computations and formulas to be used in determining the product price.Another plus factor of this is that there is not much complex information i n order to determine the product price. Beginners or junior level managers can definitely adopt this kind of pricing strategy. If there would be an increase in the product costs, price increase would be rightfully justified with this type of pricing strategy. Moreover, if competitors would be adopting the same pricing strategy, product price differences would not be that big and could also reach a stable state (tutor2u, n.d. ). Disadvantages With advantages come disadvantages as well. Jensen (n. d. ) enumerated the following problems that may be encountered with the cost-plus pricing strategy: (1) ââ¬Å"the price [established] may be so high that [the firm] will lose money through lost sales;â⬠(2) ââ¬Å"all cost-plus calculations require an estimate of sales to be accurate;â⬠and (3) ââ¬Å"cost-plus pricing can cause [the firm] to underprice [the] products or services ââ¬â thus cheating [the] company of sales it could have earned.â⬠Jensen (n. d. ) recommends that a better pricing strategy would be to consider the real value of the product and its worth to the customer. The first purpose was to observe the outcomes of robust vocabulary instruction on children who were determined to have below average vocabulary skills. The childrenââ¬â¢s level of vocabulary was determined by a standardized test of vocabulary. The second purpose was to observe how African American children retain novel vocabulary words and what type of book influences that. The literature review for this study covers robust vocabulary instruction and the role of storybooks in vocabulary development. Beck, Perfetti, and McKeown (1982) acknowledged robust vocabulary instruction as an effective way for children to learn meanings of words and improve their understanding of what they are reading (as cited in Lovelace, 2009, p. 169). Using robust vocabulary instruction allows children to understand how words are similar and different from other words or ideas. Beck et al. (1982) conducted a study using fourth-grade students from low so cioeconomic status to determine the outcome of using robust vocabulary instruction compared with regular reading and language arts activities (as cited in Lovelace, 2009, p 169). There have been a few studies after that compare the effects of robust vocabulary instruction on different parts of vocabulary acquisition and understanding. Climate is the weather conditions that are happening in certain areas for a long period of time. The climate has an affect on everything that is living on this planet. Right now the Earth is experiencing climate change. Climate change is when the temperature and weather conditions of the Earth are changing. Climate change is something that has been naturally occurring on the Earth for millions of years, but right now we are experiencing the most rapid climate change the Earth has ever undergone. 2. Climate change used to happen naturally, but right now we are having the first climate change that has been caused by humans. Humans have are the key reason to climate change right now, and it is because of the massive amounts of pollutants we are putting into our atmosphere. Gasses like methane and carbon dioxide are causing the Earthââ¬â¢s temperature to rise 1.53 degrees fahrenheit from 1880 to 2012. 3. Climate change is causing natural disasters like tsunamis, hurricanes, and droughts which are affecting humans, animals, plants, and many other organisms. Many arctic animals are running out of places to live or find food due to melting ice caps, pants and crops are dying due to natural disasters like droughts, and humans are experiencing water shortages and poor crop yields because of climate change. His uncle Talib has lived in America for seven years and was the main reason Nas made the move. Nas is currently working as a valet attendant at a hotel. We will write a custom essay sample on Backround of a Language Learner or any similar topic only for you Order Now His language proficiency is quite high. He is fully bilingual with Arabic and French and he can also understand a bit of Spanish. His English abilities are elementary. That being said, when speaking with him he is quite effective at communicating his ideas through non-verbal methods and patience. He is eager and willing to be taught and he always has questions to ask. Currently his uncle and aunt are the main sources of information and teaching when it comes to English. At work Nas does not interact with customers, except when absolutely necessary. He is not comfortable enough with the language and his coworkers do not want him to converse with customers due to his limitations with English. For this reason Nas is beginning to read and listen to English lessons in an attempt to gain fluency. He wants to become comfortable enough with the language within the next six months so as to be able to interview for a public transportation job through the city. He did not have to interview for the valet position because his uncle worked him into the job. With his enthusiasm and track record of learning other languages, his goal is well within reach. When I interviewed Nas and asked him about what his ultimate goal is, he replied, ââ¬Å"Really I want money for family that I work for so I can buy me a home here to live. â⬠His ideas come across quite clearly and the thing I noticed most about this statement was not the broken grammar, but the clarity of though and the seriousness with which he delivered his ambition. He maintains eye contact and uses his hands to emphasize his points. I notice his non-verbal connotations almost more than his verbal cues, especially when he is speaking in Arabic with Talib. They are both very animated and outgoing and their arms are in constant motion when they are speaking. They also use intonation to great effect so that even though I do not understand a word of Arabic, I can fairly accurately gauge the tones and attitude of what they are talking about. In this way, I think the main goals that we will work for in our English lessons will be to translate that non-verbal communication into everyday expressions in English. Nas, at least at this point, is not interested in the finer details of grammar and lexicon. What he most wants is to ââ¬Ëtell a good joke that people smile. ââ¬â¢ He wants to become conversational. He does not need nor want to learn academic rules. He wants to be able to meet a stranger and be able to talk to them. He wants to be able to fulfill his objectives at work. He wants to be able to secure his own job and not to rely on Talib. Mostly, he wants to become more than just a card-carrying American citizen, he wants to exercise his mind and rights through the use of English. That being said, we will face obstacles in the implementation of this new language because it is not related to the romance languages of French and Spanish and it definitely has little in common with the rhythmic Arabic of his native language. We will begin by integrating cross-cultural themes that draw connections between his life in Algeria and here in the U. S. His mind is already developed and he has been successful in his endeavors up to this point. I do not want to tutor him like I would a younger person. I think a great way for us to move forward will be to watch television and movies that have similar interests as well as subtitles, whether in Arabic, French, or Spanish. I want to cultivate a multi-disciplinary approach that focuses on getting ideas to translate more than having them be perfectly grammatical, especially considering that most conversational English does not abide by the rules of the book of grammar, even to native speakers. I think we will have greater success in implanting English into Nasââ¬â¢ everyday life because he already has the model of his Uncle Talib. Talib had learned English in less than a year after moving the America. Like Nas, he had a very limited knowledge of the language beyond a few expressions before moving here. Nas has the added advantage of already holding a job where he is surrounded by native English speakers and Talib. Whenever Nas cannot grasp what we are talking about in English, he and Talib discuss it together in Arabic and then Nas will come back to the discussion and reiterate his opinion. I am confident that Nas will succeed in his goal to learn English in order to gain full-time employment that utilizes his language skills. He has a positive example to base his optimism and he is one of the most fearless non-native English speakers I have met when it comes to trying to speak in a language you are not fluent in. The fact that he will continue to ask questions, to continue to make mistakes and to continue applying himself is an accomplishment unto itself and yet he does not cut corners. This makes the tutoring process not only easier, but much more enriching for all involved parties. It was the largest single military operation of World War II. Hence, the Normandy beaches are a must stop if you get anywhere close to France. The 50th anniversary celebration in 1994 generated a lot of hype. The recent movie Saving Private Ryan rekindled that interest. However, the landing always held a special niche going back to the event itself. Much like Gettysburg, the Normandy attack has been studied in great detail hour by hour, person by person, shot by shot. Well assume a flight landing in Paris and getting a rental car (a must) at the airport. Then you would drive over to Caen (about a 150 miles) and spend the night, which would put you at the east end of the beaches the next morning. This book by Bruce Bilven, Jr., is a historical documentation of D-Day, June 6, 1944. The book itself contains a lot of dates, names and places, which makes it a tough book to follow. Bruce Bilven Jr., himself took part in the massive D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach, as a second Lieutenant in the 29th Division Artillery. Drawing on his own experiances as a solider in World War II, he wrote two other Landmark Books about the war; From Casablanca to Berlin and From Pearl Harbor to Okinawa. Since the war he has written The American Revolution as well as many other books articles, and reviews. He lives with his wife and co-author, Naomi, and his college-age son in New York City. Summary Strategy D-Day began with the concept of the Second Front. When Stalins Russia was invaded in 1941, he immediately demanded that his new allies attack Hitler to take off the pressure. No matter his past complicity. Churchill and Roosevelt replied with the invasion of North Africa in November 1942 and Italy in 1943. Chief of staff George C. Marshall considered these sideshows draining away troops and time. The real war, argued Marshall, was to be a direct advance on Germany through France. Even as the sideshows proceeded, three other campaigns were under way the war against the German submarines, the US-British strategic bombing offensive against Germany, and the logistical buildup in Britain. The submarine conflict was a precondition for the bombing and the buildup. The Allies were fortunate that Hitler was had no interest in naval warfare. By 1943 the Allies had mastered the North Atlantic. The bombing offensive established control of the skies, which was another precondition for the invasion. The actual effect on German industrial production is still controversial, but theres no doubt that the bombing drained away German air resources that might have shown up over Normandy beaches in 1944. At the same time, the bombing forced the Germans to rationalize certain production techniques. The result, ironically, was the military production increased during the bombing offensive. British and American officers drew up plans for several contingencies in 1943. Operation OVERLORD was a large-scale assault against the German Army in France. This plan served as the basis for a final plan developed early in 1944 after General Eisenhower, designated as the supreme commander, arrived in Britain and established his command, Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force, or SHAEF. The overlooked question about D-Day is why it didnt happen in 1943. The Germans were greatly weakened after defeats at Stalingrad and North Africa in 1942. The French resistance was at its most effective. Instead, the British and Americans squabbled about how to proceed, and the delay meant that, in effect, nothing happened in 1943. Its one of the most interesting What Ifs of World War II. The over-all ground commander for the invasion was the former head of the British Eighth Army, General Montgomery, who also commanded the 21 Army Group, the controlling headquarters for the two Allied armies scheduled to make the invasion. The British were to assault on the left; the Americans on the right. This alignment explains why during the Cold War the weakened Brits defended the North German plain (on the left), while the much stronger American forces in Germany were deployed behind the Carpathian mountains (on the right). A requirement that the invasion beaches had to be within easy range of fighter aircraft based in Britain and close to at least one major port sharply limited the choice. The state of German defenses imposed further limitations. The final selection was the base of the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, southeast of Cherbourg. To facilitate supply until Cherbourg or some other port could be opened, two artificial harbors were to be towed from Britain and emplaced off the invasion beaches. The Battle of the Sexes Essay While the First Army turned southeastward, the Third U.S. Army under General Patton entered the line to swing through Avranches into Brittany in quest of ports. The arrival of the Third Army signaled a major change in command. General Bradley moved up to command the 12th Army Group, composed of the First and Third Armies, while his former deputy, Lt. Gen. Courtney H. Hodges, assumed command of the First Army. Montgomerys 21 Army Group consisted of the British Second Army and a newcomer to the front, the First Canadian Army under Lt. Gen. Henry D. G. Crerar. General Montgomery continued to function as overall ground commander, an arrangement that was to prevail for another five weeks until General Eisenhower moved his headquarters to the Continent and assumed direct command of the armies in the field. In terms of the preinvasion plan, General Eisenhower intended establishing a solid lodgment area in France extending as far east as the Seine River to provide room for air and supply bases. Having built up strength in this area, he planned then to advance into Germany on a broad front. Under Montgomerys 21 Army Group, he would concentrate his greatest resources north of the Ardennes region of Belgium along the most direct route to the Ruhr industrial region, Germanys largest complex of mines and industry. Bradleys 12th Army Group, meanwhile, was to make a subsidiary thrust south of the Ardennes to seize the Saar industrial region along the Franco-German frontier. A third force invading southern France in August was to provide protection on Bradleys right. The First Armys breakout from the hedgerows changed that plan, for it opened the German armies in France to crushing defeat. When the Germans counterattacked toward Avranches to try to cut off leading columns of the First and Third Armies, other men of the First Army held firm, setting up an opportunity for exploiting the principle of maneuver to the fullest. While the First Canadian Army attacked toward Falaise, General Bradley directed mobile columns of both the First and Third Armies on a wide encircling maneuver in the direction of Argentan, not far from Falaise. This caught the enemys counterattacking force in a giant pocket. Although a 15-mile gap between Falaise and Argentan was closed only after many of the Germans escaped, more than 60,000 were killed or captured in the pocket. Great masses of German guns, tanks, and equipment fell into Allied hands. While the First Army finished the business at Argentan, Pattons Third Army dashed off again toward the Seine River, with two objects: eliminating the Seine as a likely new line of German defense and making a second, wider envelopment to trap those German troops that had escaped from the first pocket. Both Patton accomplished. In the two pockets the enemy lost large segments of two field armies. Even as General Eisenhowers armies secured the lodgement at Normandy, the Allies on August 15 staged another invasion of southern France (Operation DRAGOON) to provide a supplementary line of communications through the French Mediterranean ports and to prevent the Germans in the south from moving against the main Allied armies in the north. Lack of landing craft had precluded launching this invasion at the same time as OVERLORD. The D-Day invasion plan called for landings at five beach locations on the Cotentin Peninsula. Dwight David Eisenhower by Nicodemus David Hufford (1915- ). Oil on canvas, 38 x 30, 1973. Hufford painted Dwight Eisenhowers portrait for the Army some four years after the death of the former chief of staff and 34th president of the United States. Thus it was necessary for him to work from photographic likenesses. Eisenhower gives the order of the Day. Full victory nothing else to paratroopers in England, just before they board their airplanes to participate in the first assault in the invasion of the continent of Europe.
